United We Stand is a non-profit organization based in the Caribbean.The aim of the organization is to fight gang violence in the Caribbean. The Caribbean at this time is being hit by a deadly killer that is attacking our youths by death on a daily basis.The Caribbean which use to be a tranquil and quiet environment was not prepared for this attack . The social evils that come with gang violence are Prostitution which brings on HIV and teenage pregnancy and women are also at times put into the position of physical and mental abuse by men who entice them with money and material things. Drug addiction is also on the increase as a result criminal activities increases, as the addict wants to support their habit. Gambling has also become an alternative for youths to get money. Another evil that arises in the lives of many youths is the breakdown of the home. Incarceration,abandonment and death of a partner can force a single parent household which can result in a lack of finances. Youths sometimes feel pressure to support the home or to get money for material items they want.  Many youths are even runaways living on the streets. A  survey that came out in Newsday Newspaper said there are 66 gangs now in Trinidad with over 500 members, this was published on Monday May 9,2006.We are trying to bring the youths on the side of being productive indiviuals in society. We stress education,creative talents,technical skills and spirituality. We want youths to develope self esteem and love themselves. We want youths to recognize that life is a precious gift they should use to the fullest .We try to point out the disadvantages to gang life. The Caribbean has always been looked as a tourist destination with beautiful beaches and so much fun. The problems facing these youths are many times being unnotieced.Our organization was born here in the Caribbean because of the lack of facilities of this nature to addtress this issue. Our counselors are professionals that have worked with youths for over twenty-five years. We  offer a Youth Club for children ages 5-17. Counseling,Tutoring and Workshops are offered. We also have a two week Residential Camp where youths go in the wilderness to reflect on their lives and the choices they have to be productive indiviuals. Both programs give the youth a sense of belonging.You can help by participating in our Sponsor A-Youth- Program.
